ABOUT MATT MICHEL DESIGN
Established in 2007, Matt Michel Design, interior designers Northern Beaches Sydney will combine creativity with technical experience to provide a unique outcome on each project. It is particularly important that the design responds to our client’s vision, site, budget and timeframe.
Based in a small loft Studio in Brookvale, we work in collaboration with clients and their other consultants and contractors, to achieve a balance between the functional and aesthetic.
We can also tender to our network of skilled cabinetmakers, builders, architects, stonemasons, glaziers and other trades, resulting in quality products that not only look great and will stand the test of time but are also great value for money.
OUR SERVICES
Design of kitchens, butler’s pantries, bathrooms, bedrooms, wardrobes, home offices, laundries, AudioVisual, and other custom cabinetry.
Selection of materials and finishes, fixtures and fittings (appliances, bathroom PC items, lighting, blinds and curtains etc), interior and exterior colours, sample boards, procurement of furniture.
Most projects involve 3 stages, Concept, Documentation and Implementation on site.

PACKAGES
Essential – 1 Space
Stages 1, 2 Concept, Documentation
Design only including 3D colour perspectives, plans and elevations, material specifications that you can pass onto your own builder, cabinetmaker and other trades to supply and install.
Detailed – 1 Space
Stages 1, 2, 3 Concept, Documentation + Tender, Site Liaison
From Concept to completion, we create a site-specific concept, compile all documentation for quotation by 2 separate cabinetmakers, and liaise with all qualified trades including builders, stonemasons, plumbers and electricians on site through to completion.
Comprehensive – Whole House, Duplex or Apartment
As per package 2 but including multiple rooms: typically, kitchen, main bathroom, ensuite, powder room, laundry, study or living room audiovisual, 3 separate wardrobes. Scope of works for builder tender and body corporate approval in apartments. Any trade discounts sourced can be passed onto clients realising significant savings.
Multiple – Multi-Res Development or Executive Rental
Subject to fee proposal after site visit or review of DA drawings. Can include design of wet areas (kitchen, bathroom, laundry), entry foyers and common areas, selection of materials and finishes. Pictorial schedule of iInclusions, styling and procurement of furniture.
T+Cs apply.
Alternatively we are able to act as a consultant on an hourly rate as required.
OUR PEOPLE
Matt Michel
Matt is qualified with a Bachelor of Design (Industrial Design UTS 1992) and is a Member of the Design Institute of Australia (MDIA), and 2021 was elected to the National Board of the Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute Australia (KBDi).
Matt has worked independently as a “Cabinetry Consultant” after gaining experience as the in-house interior designer for a Bathroom Vanity Manufacturer, a large Sydney Kitchen company and Multinational Decorative Glass Manufacturer. Matt utilises the accuracy of Computer Aided Design for final drawings and detailing, but still prefers the speed of a pad and pen to communicate ideas with clients and contractors on site. Partial to quips and analogies to explain things from a different perspective, Matt’s favourite saying is “If you cant hide something, make a feature of it..”.
Danielle Fairclough
With extensive expertise working in the United Kingdom, Danielle is qualified with a BA Honours in 3-Dimensional Design (Plymouth University, Exeter) and a diploma in Interior Design (KLC School of Design, London).
Now based at MMD in Australia , she adds her skills with selection and nomination of interior materials, finishes and furnishings, and gets involved from the start of each project with site measures and further on with documentation. Danielle’s favourite saying: “The difference between something good and something great is attention to detail”.
